"Colonia Essenza is a more assertive reinterpretation of Acqua di Parma’s classic Colonia DNA, launched in 2010. It keeps the house’s signature Italian citrus brightness but pushes the profile toward a soapier, sharper, more structured aromatic-woody direction centered on neroli, petitgrain, herbs, and clean musks. Compared with the original Colonia, it is widely perceived as more modern, more intense, and more substantial in the drydown while still remaining unmistakably in the traditional eau de cologne style. The composition opens with a dense burst of lemon, orange, bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit, neroli, and petitgrain before moving into an aromatic floral heart touched by rosemary, rose, jasmine, and clove. Its base of vetiver, patchouli, white musk, and amber adds depth and staying power unusual for the concentration. In the market, it is often praised for elegant office-friendly freshness and criticized only for premium pricing relative to an eau de cologne."

The bottle uses a striking black-and-white presentation instead of Acqua di Parma’s usual bright yellow styling, making it one of the most visually distinctive entries in the Colonia family.
It is frequently described by reviewers as the soapiest and neroli-forward reinterpretation of the original Colonia DNA.
