"1996 is a dark, atmospheric Eau de Parfum created for Byredo in collaboration with Inez & Vinoodh. Its character is built around a cool opening of black pepper and juniper berries. The heart introduces a textured combination of leather accord, orris, and violet, giving the fragrance a powdery yet shadowed floral quality. Black amber, patchouli, and vanilla create a warmer, resinous drydown. The overall effect is woody, spicy, leathery, and quietly elegant rather than overtly sweet. Its name refers to the photographic inspiration behind the fragrance, while the perfume itself was launched in 2013."
